Okay guys so here it is! The finished piece! I'm hoping beyond hope that this works! Enjoy :D
PLEASE NOTE: WHEN CONVERTING THE VIDEO TO A SMALLER SIZE SOME OF THE QUALITY HAS BEEN DISTORTED. IN PARTICULAR THIS APPLIES TO: SOUND QUALITY, IMAGE QUALITY AND LIP SYNCING QUALITY.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout my project I have used a range of different media technologies in order to create a professional and creative piece of media filming.

A massive part of that has been the use of the Canon HD HG20 video camera. Becoming creative with moving images has been something that I'm glad to have been a part of, hard though it may have been. Having only used this type of equipment for this project it was all very new to me but I soon became accustomed to it and now I am able to do things like: zoom in and out without any bumps or jolts; pan across a landscape properly; record moving images; upload them onto a computer/mac.

Another huge part of our project was the use of iMovie on the Apple Mac HD computers. This editing software was used as a creative piece of technology and allowed us to create a smoother piece of media product and therefore it wouldn't have been possible to finisht the project without it. By using the different transition effects (moving from one shot to another) and by using the different filters it enabled us to get the exact professional finish that we wanted and also enabled us to create the right effect for things like the memory shots. It also allowed us to edit any saturation errors that were made during filming, so things like lighting and shadows were fairly easily rectified throughout this process.

Photoshop is another technology that has been very familiar to me for a number of years now, and our relationship is only getting better. By using it to create the digi pak, poster and advert it helped to create a fuller project and again made it look more realistic in the process.

Microsoft Word was used in order to create the questionnaires produced for the audience feedback. This was much easier than simply asking them to write down what they thought, or asking them to appear on video because some people do get very nervous and camera shy.

Blogspot has helped me to become a prosumer in the media industry. By using this, it means that I can create a worldwide audience for my project. I have also uploaded my video onto youtube, (which you can find on TheSophz1993 channel) and also onto Facebook. In doing this, my product them immediately becomes accessible worldwide and therefore gives me a much wider audience demographic and could (if I were to make some kind of profit out of this) potentially provide a lot more profit and this is something that most filmmakers are fully aware of. Hence why pre releases are always done via the web: To gain early interest and get the audience talking (much like Paranormal Activity)

What have you learned from audience feedback?

For the audience feedback we decided to host a screening of our music video to a group of people from our target audience. Here are some reaction shots and we interviewed a fellow student so we could get a nice range.
Audience reaction:

Interview:

In order to get a better insight into what the audience were actually thinking, we came up with a questionnaire to hand out after watching it so we could get their opinions. The questionnaire was both open and closed so as to gain a real idea of what they thought, but also to keep the answers shorter and make it easier for the audience to fill in and understand, whilst giving them the option of writing down their thoughts.

We got some really good responses to the video with comments like:
'it was really interesting' 'there were many different shots' and 'it looked very realistic'
One person even commented: 'the singer acted professionally and confidently, she was intime with the music and looked like she was singing'
The overall opinion of the video was very positive, and the twist towards the end of the video was 'unexpected' which is exactly what we wanted so we're really happy with the feedback we've received.

There were a few constructive comments. Things like the lip syncing being slightly out of time, but that was out of our control as when converting it to a smaller mp4 file, some of the video became distorted. Some viewers also said that the plot was unclear in places, but this was again something that we had pre-empted. Towards the end of the video (in most cases) this was cleared up and everything made sense.

A big thank you to everyone who took park in the audience (:

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Looking at my media product, I am really pleased with the overall result as I think it looks fairly professional and realistic. When compared to the rest of David Guetta’s work it actually challenges his usual style of video work as there isn’t as much of a narrative used throughout, and they’re more based around having a party and a good time.

The plus point of producing a music video as opposed to a horror trailer is that we had the creative freedom to think of an entire narrative, rather than just a sample. When studying Todorov’s theory of the narrative structure, I discovered that my piece fits in well with what he describes [equilibrium – disruption – disequilibrium – solution – new equilibrium]. Here’s how

Equilibrium: _Boy & Girl are happy together. Happy memories being shown.

Disruption: _Boy tells Girl he’s leaving.

Disequilibrium: _Boy is killed during a freak accident when he leaves

Solution: _Girl’s best friend comforts and consoles her. They become close.

New Equilibrium: _The two Girls are now in a relationship. Happy days!

In terms of looking at other media productions from the same genre (music videos) my product, again seems to follow a similar sort of format and in some cases is fairly similar. For example if you look at Take That’s Rule the World video you can see that their narrative is also interrupted with pieces recorded in the recording studio, much like my production. It also has a very emotional feel to it due to the euphoric key change towards the end of the song.

Propp’s theory of characters says that there are a generic set of characters used throughout most media articles. They are:

The villain: struggles against the hero

The donor: prepares the hero or gives the hero some magical object

The helper: helps the hero in the quest

The princess: person the hero marries, often sought for during the narrative

Her father

The dispatcher:character who makes the lack known and sends the hero off

The hero or victim/seeker: reacts to the donor, weds the princess

These characters, although a little bit outdated can be seen present throughout the majority of productions. However, in my piece there doesn’t really seem to be any of those characters involved, possibly with the exception of the hero, in which the audience relates to throughout the entire piece. This then means my production challenges the regular conventions of most fully narrative productions.

My music video also challenges the stereotypical view on woman that is rife throughout the filming industry in that the actress (me) doesn't use her body or sex appeal in order to gain interest into the video or song. There is a common theory that women rely solely on men, and my video again fights against that because the girl finds new love with another girl and has decided that she can go on happy without the need of men, but independantly.

Evaluation

In my evaluation I'm going to talk about the following:

•In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

•How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

•What have you learnt from audience feedback?

•How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Change Of Plan..

Okay, so there may have been some slight difficulties in filming in that one of our actors has dropped out. Thus causing us some minor (MAJOR!) problems with the plotline and continuity of the video.

To resolve this issue, we decided to change the plotline (just a tad) and this is how it's going to look (you know minus all of the writing)
